the smell before rain
and beneath the starlit blanket dreams are made of solid gold
Every evening I died, and every evening I was born again, resurrected.

I'm just...dead. That was one fine emotion overload, people...and I don't really know where to start - two days after watching the movie and one day after reading the book my head is still full of incoherent thoughts and million various emotions.

Ok, I know that the first rule says not to talk about Fight Club so let's just pretend this post doesn't exist. So - when the movie ended I turn off my tv and sat there in silence and complete darkness for at least five minutes just staring at tv screen. I was in a state of shock, believe me. I mean, yeah, I was expecting it to be good and you know what? It was brilliant...and so fucking disturbing (Closer doesn't even get close...um, did it sound funny?).

I did something I rarely do - I watched a movie first and then read a book, which in 90 per cent of cases is very close to crime to me. Not in this one because man, so much love. I wasn't a big fan of Edward Norton before but right now he's like god to me. Ok, maybe not god but you get it. The way he played Jack - it was something, you know? It left me speechless. I loveloveLOVE his voice-overs, especially the insomnia part - With insomnia, nothing is real. Everything is far away. Everything is a copy of a copy of a copy. I'm obsessed with that part and as soon as I heard it, I knew I'd love the movie. Even with the creepy beginning, going to meetings and watch dying people crying to feel better, I knew I'd love it. I didn't understand why he did it but I thought about it and it all seems clearer to me now but I still think I need to watch the movie at least 3 times more to understand what was happening in Jack's head. And let's not forget about waking up in different places part - You wake up at Seatac, SFO, LAX. You wake up at O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, BWI. Pacific, mountain, central. Lose an hour, gain an hour. This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time. You wake up at Air Harbor International. If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person? Copy of a copy of a copy of a...

If you asked me about all my fav parts, I'd have to memorize half of the dialogue.

Jack is one of the best movie characters ever created. Brad Pitt did great as well. His Tyler was intelligent, crazy, unpredictable and funny. Dangerous and sexy. Lethal and mysterious. Dedicated. Unforgettable.

I think I'm becoming addicted to the movie. It's atmosphere, darkness, its colours. Also, even without a few very good scenes, it still stays close to the book. Let me just say that Chuck Palahniuk is a freaking genius. The "I am Jack's broken heart" parts reminded me a bit about The God of Small Things, I'm a huge fan of this kind of writing. And I like that there sometimes is no continuity, that we skip some scenes only to return to them later. Or earlier. Lose an hour, gain an hour. It makes the story feel slightly less possible, in a good way of course.

And I like how Marla's character is developed in the book because she's just so awesome. The book helped me in better understanding of Marla/Jack relationship. When I watched the movie, 'toxic' was the first (and for a long time the only) word that I thought of when I wanted to describe these two. Hate, fear, pain, tension, longing, it was all fo wonderfully fucked up that it was almost too much for me. But god, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham-Carter showed all of it so good. So good. I died a little after the bridesmaid's dress scene - the look he gave her after she left? Shiiiit. Anyway, in the book it's all slowly developed and we get some priceless moments (Marla talking about her ex boyfriends? Or Jack saying be may like her a little? Aw, so awesome). Marla and Jack own me, together or not.

Oh oh and the ending - how good the last lines were? With the hand holding and staring and disappearing buildings? Damn. Still, the book ending seems to be a bit more realistic/ Uhh, I'm torn!

And finally, those 5 or 6 super secret (mostly Tyler) frames which last 1/60 of a second fucking ruled. Seriously, the idea is so perfect...dude, I really REALLY need to have this movie on DVD.

I've been listening to the soundtrack all day, yo (Kaja, I love you. You predicted it or what?!) and it rules, too. I already know Pixies - Where is my mind by heart.

In conclusion - hands down, it's fucking love. (and it's the longest post ever, thank you very much)

they're kind of dark and green and it's all been done on purpose, I wanted them to fit to the movie.

and you know what...I havent seen this movie in ages... and now I so need to see it again. I vaguely remember he seen where he talks about furniture and how his decoration defines him or is supposed to and somehow that stayed with me. Ed is a wonderful actor!!
18 05 05 (UTC) - Re: omg
Guh, the movie is just so...god, it's really disturbing and I love its sarcastic humor and actors and voice-overs. It's all very special and dangerous.

I liked this part when Tyler say that we want to own things but in the end things own us...or something like this. It's just so damn true.
18 05 05 (UTC)
I haven't seen Fight Club, but it's quite obvious that I really, REALLY need to now. Awesome...I didn't read all of your thoughts, so I wouldn't be too spoiled, but those icons are enough to make me want to go out and rent it right now.

*huge hugs*
I miss you like crazy Ola! <3

Here's some pictures for you! No reason...just pictures!!

oh man. you just summed up everything I felt after I saw Fight Club. I agree, it IS brilliant. I watched it for the first time last year and I was quoting every line for about a month afterwards. love the icons, especially the "copy of a copy" one, great work!
taking 1, 7, 10, & 22
18 05 05 (UTC)
I was quoting every line for about a month afterwards. - That's exactly what I'm gonna do. Or rather what I have been doing since Monday. I can't help it, it's stronger than me! The dialogue rules so hard, man.

Enjoy!
18 05 05 (UTC)
I'm too tired to make any conclusions, but you should know - what I love it's sure that you sooner or later will love too :P
So Fight Club is one of the best movies I have EVER seen, and I told you that, when we first met in November :D
I'm so glad you loved it so much.
And god dammit, those icons, are amazing.
But more Brad-Tyler PLEASE:P He's sex only.
And yep - the soundtrack. I just knew that when you'll see the movie, you'll come and beg me to give it to you. I'm kind, you know:P
I love you too :)

You've met me in the weird time of my life Or something like that. THE COOLEST fucking movie-quote ever.
18 05 05 (UTC)
what I love it's sure that you sooner or later will love too - dude, and the other way 'round! :-P It's not like I told you to watch LOST, huh? ;) Or Garden State. Or Eternal Sunshine *giggles*

But more Brad-Tyler PLEASE:P He's sex only. - But I'm so obsessed with Jack! Besides, I wanted to make more Tyler caps but I couldn't find any good caps, sorry.

Haha yeah, I'm so glad you thought about it cause I bet I'd spend a few hours on d/ling every single song yesterday!

THE COOLEST fucking movie-quote ever. - I knooow! Haha I love it. "weird"? That was a bit of a fucking understatement, don't you think? lol You know, you should read the book!
18 05 05 (UTC)
aw man, FC is teh shit. it's one of my all-time favorites. what took you so long to discover it!!!! mmmmmm EDWARD NORTON HRH!~@!@!#@!R@ !!!!

i love 17! now i want my own FC icon.
18 05 05 (UTC)
it's one of my all-time favorites. - now it's one of mine, too. Hands down! Seriously, the atmosphere and darkness of this movie combined with its twisted humour makes it impossible not to love it!

Thank yooou // Then make lots and lots of FC icons so I'll snag one and keep it for months like the Mason one ;)
18 05 05 (UTC)
OMG, your icons are love! *hugs them*
Fight Club is the best twisted and dark story in the world!!!
And Ed Norton is teh god!
18 05 05 (UTC)
Not taking any icons, but I think they're gorgeous.
18 05 05 (UTC)
Wow, you totally read my mind! My friend Jonnie and I were talking about the Palahniuk books we've read and what we liked, when he found out I hadn't seen Fight Club, and basically just went "I'm lending you my copy. Like, NOW."

So I watched it, loved it, and two days later, bought my own copy, lol.

Amazing film, isn't it? Always thought Norton was great, but this just cemented it. And never had seen Bonham-Carter in anything, and was very pleasantly suprised. "It's cheaper than a movie, and there's free coffee." Great characters.

But I agree with you on the Jack love -- he's an amazing character. I could go on, but I might not stop, lol.

Adore the icons, snagged a bunch, will credit. ♥
18 05 05 (UTC)
Wow, saved most of these. Love this movie! :D
18 05 05 (UTC)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I. LOVE. THE. ICONS.
19 05 05 (UTC)
Yay, good! Have you seen the movie? <33
18 05 05 (UTC)
Fight Club is the best movie ever, you don't understand how much it means to me. My life revolves around Fight Club. Every thought that I have, have something to do with Fight Club. I'm so unbelievable fucked up. I think about fighting, making soap (collagen!), bomb, burning my hand with saliva and lye, destroying the world and everything. The movie and book is so amazing, that it's hard to describe how much I love it. Most of the time I wished it was real. In Tyler We Trust.

Chuck Palahniuk is a fuckin' genius. You must, must, must read all of his books. I have them all (except for Haunted, it just came out and Fugitives and Refugees) and they're all very fucked up. If you like Fight Club, you'll like everything else. There might a be chance that his other books will be made into a movie. I'll die for that.

I love you for making Fight Club icons. ♥
18 05 05 (UTC)
I forgot to mention that at the end, before the movie end you see a flash of something. I knew what it was but I wanted to really see it so I paused it at that moment and whoa...do it if you're curious. :P
18 05 05 (UTC)
i'm late!! i'm late in commenting, NOOOO!!! XD

I wasn't a big fan of Edward Norton before but right now he's like god to me.
omg same here! i mean, i didn't even know the guy. after fight club though, i wanted to see all his movies

brad pitt was awesome too. i love how tyler talks heeee. plus his wardrobe omg! and the house. i want the house k? and the scene where he was begging the basement owner to let them have the space? my mouth was open the whole time :))

If you asked me about all my fav parts, I'd have to memorize half of the dialogue.
this is the best thing bout fight club no? well, everything was amazing but they've made the most difference with the lines. i really should read the book now that you've mentioned it. so there are lots more marla scenes? gosh i need the damn book NOW

your icons are so so pretty. i'm taking 14, 18, 20 for future use. this reminds me, fight club's the only movie i capped myself lol.
19 05 05 (UTC)
Aw, don't worry! It's never too late for a good comment spam ;)

Anyway, Norton was so brilliant, I LOVE his Jack omg. I love the whole movie! And voice-overs and colours and characters and this specific sarcastic humour and an entire story...guh, so much love. Tyler's clothes ruled so much and yeah, I loved the house! (especially the basement full of water lmao)

the scene where he was begging the basement owner to let them have the space - I got it, I got it! ... shit, I lost it. hhahaa
Dude, I'll know every damn line by heart soon and then I'll start quoting the movie every damn time I'll have something to say (like I'm not doing it already haha)

Well, maybe not A LOT more Marla scenes but she's mentioned a few times more...and we get her backstory, too. Guh, she's really awesome, I loved so hard while her 'ex bfs talk' - read the book and we'll talk about it!
18 05 05 (UTC)
Welcome to the palahnuik fight club love fest, it's nice here. I remember the 1st I saw it, my best friend brought it over saying it was "fucking genius" and I watched it and was enthralled. I've been obsessed ever since. I've actually been thinking for days now 'why don't I have the dvd'? It's my favorite movie and he's one of my favorite authors. I'm probably taking all the icons so thank you muchly.
19 05 05 (UTC)
Damn girl, I already LOVE it here haha I'm glad I have some Fight Club obsessed freaks on my f-list, I was a bit afraid you'd all be like "dude wtf, what's she on this time?" but anyway, I was so freaking speechless after the movie and I spent 4 hours today on looking for FC DVD all over Warsaw. And guess what's in my hand now? :D I think I'll sleep with it tonight lmao
Dude, the voice-overs kill me. Kill me! So amazing, man...

Aw, I'm glad you like the icons hon.

18 05 05 (UTC)
Stopping by so you don't think I'm dead. ;) Your icons are gorgeous! I like the darker colors; it makes them look mysterioussss. Hee. Hugs for Ola.
19 05 05 (UTC)
Aw, you're adorable :) Plus - omg, doc MsDreamy! Patrick is awesome.

I wanted them to be so dark cause the whole movie is exactly like my icons, dark, mysterious and disturbing. And fucking perfect! The movie, not my icons lol Have you seen it?
19 05 05 (UTC)
One of my greatest films ever, rates in my top 3. I love icnonic parts like Tyler in the bathtub, smoking a cigarette - and his fuzzy slippers! Excellent ending. I can remember seeing it when I was a bit younger, so seeing all the random violence made me a little afraid of Brad.
PS. Where'd ya get the screencaps from?
19 05 05 (UTC)
I got them from [info]cap_it!

And dude, Tyler in the bathtub...it's the most iconned Fight Club cap, just trust me :) Damn, he is fine! But still, Jack owns my soul.
19 05 05 (UTC)
One of the best movies evah. And I love you for making icons of it. Taking several ;)
